Luçon
Luçon became a bishopric in the 14th century and prospered in the 19th century thanks to the increasing number of ships using its harbour.

This is a town steeped in history, where Cardinal Richelieu was bishop from 1608 to 1623. Visit the Dumaine Garden, said to be one of the most beautiful gardens in France, or the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Assumption with its 85-metre steeple.

Luçon is the point of departure for trips into the Poitou Marshes and you can travel deep into “Green Venice” via Moreilles and Chaillé-les-Marais, Vouillé or Fontenay-le-Comte, and Maillezais.
The Mervent-Vouvant Forest, home to Mélusine the fairy, is only 35 kms away via Fontenay-le-Comte.
