Sécurité enfants
Saint-Jean-de-Monts is undertaking a safety programme for its public spaces. Beyond the beach, it now has a total length of more than 25 km of cyclepaths running through the resort so that you can ride around safely.
Lifeguard stations
The main station (opposite the conference centre) is manned from the spring holidays onwards. In good weather, the 7 km beach is covered by seven lifeguard stations manned by nine police officers and 18 volunteer lifeboatmen.
The following are displayed at each station: windspeed and direction, air and water temperature and any special information. Seven inshore rescue craft are constantly manned and the crews have a defibrillator.
Marker posts
The marker posts erected on the beach serve as meeting points for children and their parents.
Wristbands
To complete the range of safety features, the lifeboat service provides free wristbands for children, marked with their name and the parents’ telephone number.
Tiralos
Four Tiralos (floating wheelchairs) are available free of charge (three at the central station and the fourth at the avenue de la Mer station) for wheelchair users who want to enter the sea.
Mountain bike forest wardens
This “summer host” service is provided by three local authority wardens who patrol the cyclepaths in the forest. Their job is to provide information to the public and keep an eye on the ecosystems of the Pays de Monts forest. They can also be found at recreational areas, on the footpaths and cycle paths, and at car parks.
Some precautions to take before swimming
Don’t spend too much time in the sun, don’t overeat, don’t enter the water when tired and wade out gradually to avoid the risk of losing consciousness.
Areas to be respected on the beach
The swimming area is marked by yellow buoys. The fairway is reserved for boats. Sandyachting areas are marked and coned off.
